Oscar is a boy who loses everything. He can never remember where he left his boots, or his scooter or his toys.
But one day, he meets Hugo, an elephant who remembers everything.
Together, they become the best of friends. But one day, Oscar loses something very important...his temper.
And this means that he might just lose his best friend as well.
I wrote this story because as I get older, I am terrible for losing things – my keys, my phone...I can go up the stairs to my studio, which is in the attic, to get something and on the way, I can forget why I went there in the first place! My husband is exactly the same – sometimes I wonder how we manage!
So I like the idea of losing silly little things, stuff like toys and shoes etc juxtaposed against the idea of losing something physically huge, like an elephant. But also, the idea of losing an abstract, much more important thing – like your temper, or a dear friend. And when those things happen (and we've all been there), it's important to know what you can do to put things right.
Here are some sketches I made and some early page designs when I was working on the layout - and some images from the inside of the finished book.
